Senior Accountant-Commerce, CA

Primary Position Responsibilities :

This position is responsible for maintaining various general ledger accounts and schedules as well as performing monthly financial statements preparation and analysis against Plan and Forecast. This individual should also have the ability to support operational improvements grounded in financial and operational performance. This will require proactive analyses and significant interaction with both finance and operations both at the corporate and regional levels.

Will also be responsible for the cost accounting, inventory control and related audit functions and will utilize operational resources to deliver the following tasks on a timely and effective manner:

-Assist in the month end close (Prepare JE’s, Complex Reconciliations, Analysis of assigned accounts, and various post close analysis/reports).
-Insure the accurate and timely recording and reporting of all assigned accounts including, but not limited to, inventory, freight and product costing. Provide detailed analytics on assigned accounts for inclusion in the various monthly reporting packages.
-Work closely with FP&A to make recommendations on cost reduction and process efficiency improvements.
-Review, analyze, and communicate the actual monthly financial and operational results to the management team with an emphasis on actual to forecast and actual to PY performance.
-Prepare monthly and quarterly comments and analysis on assigned accounts.
-Work with the operations team to identify and manage problem inventory (especially slow moving and obsolete inventory) and its effect on gross margin. Provide explanations on all significant cost of sales variances.
-Coordinate and assist in the preparation of the annual budget.
-Assist in the preparation of the monthly financial reporting package and quarterly BOD presentation.
-Assume other duties as needed and required.

-Ability to prepare clear, concise, and professional presentations of analyses and conclusions for internal and external audiences

Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Finance or Accounting required

Experience:
-Minimum of 3 years work experience in a distribution environment
-Minimum of 5 years in accounting and in supporting senior management
-Public Accounting experience a plus

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

-Solid understanding of financial statements and GAAP accounting principles
-Excellent interpersonal skills, comfortable working in a team environment
-Ability to interact with Operations, Sales and IT personnel and a willingness to actively participate on cross-functional teams and projects
-Good knowledge of the budget process and budgeting software
-Strong leadership skills and a “can do” attitude that drives operational and financial results
-Experience in financial month-end closes (process, requirements, reporting, etc)
-Superior Excel financial modeling and PowerPoint skills, experience with Access database a plus
-Experience working with an ERP system, data mining skills a plus
-Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills demonstrating the ability to understand key business drivers and offer workable solutions
